Parenting Wisely is designed to help teens and their families to increase communication; decrease family conflict; increase parental supervision; improve discipline and parenting techniques; and reduce or prevent juvenile delinquency, substance abuse; school failure; violent behaviors, and teen pregnancy. Youth and families are referred through Juvenile Hearing Boards in Johnston, Smithfield, Scituate, Foster, Glocester and Burrillville, Truancy Courts, and through self-referral.

Provides academic and vocational assessment and exploration, GED prep, basic skills remediation, occupational skills training, employment assistance and placement, intensive case management, job coaching, leadership skills, adult mentoring, life skills training, tracking and follow up. Statewide for youth ages 14 -24 years old, for both in-school and out-of school youth.

A science-based curriculum to assist youth in assuming responsibility for their actions and the possible consequences of those actions, by helping them develop life, family planning and social skills. Open to teens from ages 15 to 18 years old that are at risk for teen pregnancy, dropping out of school, substance abuse, or juvenile delinquency.

Intensive case management services focusing on school completion and/or GED, Adult Basic Education and Literacy, ESL, Life Skills Training and Parent Education. Available to pregnant and parenting teens who are 20 years old or younger. Case managers will assist participants in applying for child care services, Food Stamps, Rite Care, and transportation and employment assistance.

A six to eight week program operated between June and August for youth ages 14 -24. The program provides youth with work experience opportunities in local businesses, public facilities and non-profit agencies. Work experiences provide youth with hands-on opportunities to develop the skills they will need upon entering the work force. Youth receive a stipend or wage and are required to attain certain benchmarks relative to their job performance. Youth also participate in a variety of career and personal development activities such as community service projects, field trips to local business and civic events, exposure to post secondary education and training opportunities, and guest speakers from key RI industries.

Tri-Town coordinates Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition activities in the Towns of Johnston, Smithfield, and North Providence. The Coalitions are comprised of major stakeholders in the community to establish community-wide plans to deliver substance abuse prevention services in the community.

The Drug Free Communities Support Program enables the Smithfield Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition to strengthen their coordination and prevention efforts, encourage citizen participation in substance abuse reduction efforts, and disseminate information about effective programs The Coalition is comprised of youth; parents; media; law enforcement; school officials; faith-based organizations; fraternal organizations; state and local, government agencies; healthcare professionals; and other community representatives.

Case workers attend Truancy Court in Johnston, Smithfield, and North Providence, and Foster/Glocester school districts with the purpose of case managing students and their families and making referrals as deemed appropriate by the courts.

Offers alternative to Family Court for first time juvenile offenders referred directly from the local police. Sanctions are imposed, with a case management focus, to divert juvenile offenders from a second offense while identifying problems affecting their behavior, such as truancy, disobedience, and delinquency. Tri-Town coordinates the Boards for juvenile offenders and their families in the Towns of Johnston, Smithfield, North Providence, Scituate, Glocester, and Foster.
