The Tri-Town Head Start Programs serve children and families from North Providence, Johnston, Smithfield, North Smithfield, Burrillville, Glocester, Scituate and Foster with part-day and full-day program options. Early Head Start and Head Start offer early childhood education, social services/case management, and support for children with special needs, support for children with mental health needs, health and safety education, nutrition assessment and counseling, literacy skills training for parents, opportunities for family engagement, parent education, and transition coordination.

Early Head Start is dedicated to nurturing relationships between infants, toddlers and their parents and supporting the health and well-being of pregnant women. Early Head Start offers a center-based option and a home-based option. Classrooms are located in Johnston, North Providence and Pascoag.

Early Head Start and Head Start Locations
Head Start offers center-based services to children ages 3-5 years. Children attend the center 3, 4 or 5 days per week. Classroom instruction is guided by a research-based curriculum, Opening the World of Learning (OWL), as well as the Rhode Island Early Learning Standards. Classrooms are located in Johnston, North Providence, and Pascoag.

Early Head Start and Head Start Locations
Born to Learn is a curriculum tool used in the Early Head Start Homebased Option. The goals of the program are to:
- Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices
- Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues
- Prevent child abuse and neglect
- Increase children's school readiness and school success
Tri-Town was asked to partner in an Early Reading First Grant which involved five North Providence Head Start preschool classrooms. Participation involved working closely with Mentor-Coaches and delivering the Open the World of Learning (OWL) curriculum. The program is designed to:
- Enhance children's language, cognitive, and early reading skills through professional development for teachers;
- Provide early language and reading development and instructional materials;
- Provide preschool-age children with cognitive learning opportunities;
- Use screening assessments to effectively identify preschool children who may be at risk for reading failure; and
- Improve existing early childhood programs by integrating scientifically based reading research into all aspects of the program
Teachers in the Head Start program participated in 36 hours of intense training in the use of the Incredible Years strategies and techniques in Head Start classrooms. The short term goals of the Incredible Years series include:
- Reducing negative and disruptive behaviors in the classroom and at home
- Promoting social, emotional, and academic competence in children
Provides a comprehensive and coordinated program of Early Childhood Education, Adult Basic Education, ESL, GED Prep, Family Literacy Skills Training, Job Coaching, Case Management, Interactive Child-Family Literacy Skills Training, and Parent Education. Available to low income families with children between the ages of 0-8 years in the towns of Johnston, Smithfield, North Providence, Burrillville, North Smithfield, Glocester, Scituate and Foster.

Provides monthly food vouchers to purchase nutritious food, including milk, eggs, cheese, iron fortified cereals, and juice. Monthly Nutrition Education and Counseling services are provided by Certified and Licensed Dietitians. WIC is a statewide program for pregnant, lactating, and parenting women at 180% or higher of the poverty level, with infants and children under the age of 5 years. Sites in Johnston and Burrillville

Provides information about methods of infant feeding. The ultimate goal is to provide the education and support necessary to increase both the rates and duration of the nursing experience. All WIC eligible clients with pre-weaned children.
